Compare Switchboard Upgrade Quotes
Two switchboard quotes can describe different amounts of work. Compare the assessment, included circuits and external dependencies before deciding which proposal meets the property’s needs.

Check what the proposal is based on
Ask whether the quote follows a site assessment or is an estimate based on limited information. Existing wiring condition, the number of circuits, enclosure suitability and available space can affect the work. Photos taken from a safe position cannot establish everything behind a cover.
Provide the same planned appliance changes to each contractor. A quote for replacing an existing board is not necessarily a capacity proposal for a new EV charger or electric kitchen. State the desired outcome without assuming a complete supply upgrade is required.
Ask what happens to each circuit
Request a clear description of the protective devices and circuits included. Ask the electrician to explain the proposed arrangement in plain language and what existing wiring checks are required. Product branding alone does not establish that the design suits the installation.
Have the contractor identify how unexpected existing faults will be handled. New protection may expose a condition requiring further investigation; a fixed equipment allowance should not conceal assumptions about the existing circuits. Agree how additional findings will be reported and authorised.
- Board or enclosure replacement versus changes within the existing enclosure.
- Circuits covered and the proposed protective arrangements.
- Testing, circuit identification and applicable completion documents.
Separate mains, metering and access work
A switchboard project can intersect with consumer mains, connection equipment or metering, but those are not automatically included. Ask who coordinates any required interruption and whether external parties or relevant authorisations are needed.
If a panel may contain asbestos or another hazardous material, ask how it will be assessed and handled by appropriately qualified people. Do not disturb it for a photograph or sample. Clarify access, disposal, patching and other finish work in the proposal.
Make assumptions visible before accepting
Compare exclusions, variation terms and the expected interruption process alongside the price. Ask what is provisional and what would cause the scope to change. Avoid choosing a proposal that appears cheaper only because essential investigation or coordination has been left to someone else.
ZEOS switchboard enquiries can include competing scope questions without treating another contractor’s quote as a diagnosis. Provide the existing concerns and planned loads so an assessment can establish the appropriate work.
General planning information, not a diagnosis or electrical work instructions. Requirements and equipment suitability must be confirmed for your property.
